Sarah Campbell is the co-founder with her sister, the late Susan Collier, of the textile design company Collier Campbell, noted for their use of colour and the hand-painted mark. From the start their designs became best-sellers - starting at Liberty of London Prints and on to, among many others, Habitat, Fishbacher, Caroline Charles, Jaeger, M&S, House of Fraser in the UK and many partners in the USA both in bedding and decorative fabrics.
In 1984 they were the first women to win the Duke of Edinburgh's Designer Prize along with the Design Council award that year. Their work is in many publications and collections. This year saw their 50th year in business, and as part of the celebrations a retrospective exhibition was held at The National Theatre, Southbank.
Sarah lives locally; over the years she has developed areas of design outside the commercial partnership. These unique scarves are part of her current work hand-painted directly on silk. The hand-made cards are little collages of vintage fabrics from the Collier Campbell Archive, on Indian rag paper. The printed cards are the first edition of Sarah's new 'Salamander' imprint.
