Steven Harkin has in excess of 25 years' experience in the design and development of accessories. Originating in the crafts movement of the late '70s and '80s the work created was primarily directed to one-off exhibition work using leather as a vehicle to create witty and innovative objects or products. (Represented in public and private collections in Australia, Britain, Germany, Holland, USA and Asia.)
During the '80s Steven moved into the area of fashion, creating a range of high fashion leather hats and an award-winning range of leather clothes, using innovative techniques and approach to design.
The '90s brought about a new era of materials experimentation and development of products. Creating products such as bags and attaché cases using materials such as commercial flooring rubber, aluminium, wood fibre products, Formica, metal meshes, PVC, polypropylene and acrylics.
2000-2003 was spent working in Italy, developing a brand profile, skills, and product range selling to selected retailers.
2003-2008. Senior lecturer and research academic with University Of The Arts London, London College Of Fashion (LCF), Cordwainers school fashion accessories. As a research academic Steven has been actively involved in both the Fashion Science and Living Colour research hubs of LCF.
